Summary of F1TV Pro in regards to VPN

Since a LOT of people are asking the same questions, it would be beneficial to gather info under one thread on how stuff works. Please share your experience and I will try to update the thread accordingly.

Please note that this is from what people have said in threads on the subreddit, they are not from my own experience and I do not take responsibility for the info being correct. But from what I’ve gathered so far:

Here is the link to F1TV’s official explanation:

EU country where F1TV Pro is available: You can use a VPN to buy from another EU country for that price, but don’t need a VPN to watch content.

Apparently your payment method should be from that country though, unless you use the F1 app on Android to purchase it using Google Pay.

Afaik Paypal should work too?

Thanks for putting in the effort! It is a frequently asked question, so we may sticky it to this sub once more info is compiled here, and add it to the faq as well.

Here’s what I did:

I live in Germany, bought F1 TV Pro via VPN connected to the Netherland trough the F1 TV android app. Payment method was credit card.

  1. get a vpn
  2. create a gmail account while connected to the vpn
  3. get the f1 tv android app through the google play store in which you’re logged in with your new gmail account. Still connected to the vpn
  4. create a f1 tv account (still connected to the vpn)
  5. subscribe to f1 tv pro (still connected to the vpn)

After subscribing to f1 tv pro you can disconnect from your vpn and go to f1 tv on your browser in incognito mode. You should be able to login to your new account and have full access to f1 tv pro now. Even on two different devices at the same time. I hope that saves you some money ans sky sports f1 some customers …

Pro isn‘t available in Germany, but I‘m watching without VPN.

F1TV have explained it themselves well enough.

One issue I’m having is that I’m trying to create a new google account via VPN (set to Turkey as I think that’s one of the cheapest F1TVPRO Options) and I can’t get past the “verify your phone number” stage as my normal mobile number is already in use for my regular google account. Is there anyway to get past this?

In the US, I subscribe to FuboTV and get race-day coverage. Unfortunately not qualifying.

Afaik Paypal should work too?

Depending on the region, in Germany it won’t work, as to authenticate your PayPal account you need a confirmation transaction that basically identifies your PayPal account as region specific.

After several times trying to get a Portugal account (I live in Spain, so I can use the subscription as I lived in Portugal with no restrictions), and I finally succeed.

I used Urban VPN, opened F1 App and it loaded Portugal prices , logged into my account and pay for the subscription using my credit card linked to Google Play with no problems

I tried to link my paypal to Google Play before, in case F1 app detected my credit card origin, but no luck, and it didn’t matter after all.

Also in my Samsung S21, when using VPN I wasn’t able to open the F1 app. I had to use another phone (Google Pixel).

Good luck!

I found this article very helpful when it came down to choosing which VPN to get for F1 TV.

Apparently these guys tested several VPNs on several devices with F1 TV and F1 TV Pro, some are faster than others which might matter a lot if you have an iffy connection.

I’m in EU where F1TV pro is available. If I purchase from f1tv pro country outside of EU, can I still watch without vpn?

Holy shit, I actually had no idea that this place had mods, lol. (no offence meant fwiw)

I was able to do it like this:

  1. Download VPN (Freedome) and connect to Poland
  2. Download Formula 1 app (NOT F1 TV app)
  3. Create an account and set country to Poland
  4. Paid through my Google account

I am in a country that has F1TV Pro, so maybe that allowed me to skip a few hurdles.

I didn’t even need to create a new Google account or anything, and just used my local credit card.

What address in the Netherland did you give?

If i use a VPN, Is there a difference between paying trough direct phone billing, a credit card or googleplay pre-paid card?

That’s interesting, I’ve heard people saying they can’t watch live content in countries where F1 TV Pro isn’t available without VPN.

people who subbed to it before they announced the removal are still being honored, or has that expired now? Anyways, i think that’s the explanation

Thanks, there we have it. Hadn’t come upon this before.

I didn’t need to do anything to my google account, just set my location in Freedome and downloaded the Formula1 app (not F1TV) and created an account in the app to the country I used (Poland).

Maybe Turkey is harder because it isn’t a EU country?
