Test VPN binding to Qbit

Thanks to this sub I now know not to trust my VPNs killswitch and that I should bind it to Qbit. I think I’ve succeeded in binding it but I’m not certain I did it right. Is there a safe way to test this? I tried ipleaks torrenting check but it seems it doesn’t register my connection because nothing comes up. Could I have bound the VPN wrong or is it the site that may be acting up?

It’s hard to screw up. It’s literally Tools, Options, Advanced, Network Interface, pick the VPN adapter. Done.

If you read the sticky thread about binding, then you’ll know how to test it safely (hint: rhymes with buntu)

When you say “nothing comes up” if you mean the file preview in qBit nothing comes up for me either, I just press okay and go check ipleak. The torrent goes to “downloading” but stays at 0%

Don’t pick an IP. Bind to the Interface only.

Start to download a legal torrent like a Linux distro. Turn off your VPN. The download should stop. It doesn’t stop immedialely, it takes a couple of seconds to empty the cache but it isn’t downloading though the Internet.

How about in optional ip address to bind to? I put the “new” one that pops up when i pick my VPN in network interface. Saw some guide to do that. Change something there?

Yeah, tried that. Won’t download even tho I’m connected to VPN

Nothing on ipleak comes up which makes me think it just won’t download. I checked both on the metadata page and when downloading as you say

Got it to work when choosing ip. Any reason to not do it now when it works?

Then I guess that the seeders don’t get a connection to me and will not see my ip when disconnecting the VPN, correct?

This directly answers my question. Thanks!

You don’t really need to, but if you want an extra assurance, you can choose the local ip associated with the VPN adapter. You can find out what it is by using ipconfig at a command prompt. It usually starts with 10. something, but might not always.

I would make sure it’s working first on ipleak without doing this step. If that works, then add this step and test again.

you dont need to force an IP. Most VPNs give you a random IP on each connection, if you force a static one in qB settings then its on you to update it every time.

If your IP changes when your VPN connects it won’t work. Most don’t have a static IP unless you pay for it.

It worked wonders when I turned off the extra step, but when I turned it on it just wouldn’t work. Used the short ip that started with 10.

That shouldn’t break it, but with it off, run all the tests on ipleak and see if you’re clean.

With it off it works on ipleak. I turned my VPN off and on and it stopped and then started tracking as it should. Could I be safe without the second option or should I try to fix it?

You should be safe. My second option is not set, and I’ve never had a problem.

Alright, thanks for the help!
