The real problem with PVP for me: connection

Certain weapons have terrible hit registration as well, was running jade rabbit yesterday and I’m firing 1-2 extra shots after every kill because it hasn’t registered yet, never had that with other weapons.

I have the same issue all of my shots get registered incredibly late and this is the only game I have issues with and none of them in PvE content, also why won’t they show me my ping. I kinda suspect all of my connection issues are due to the weird P2P connection system they have.

It’s just Destiny.

Bungie wants to “have the best feeling FPS in the industry” but they continue to champion the worst netcode in the industry. There’s rarely a game that isn’t tainted beyond belief by laggy bullshit.

As others have said, it’s the shoddy networking. For me, it feels especially bad this week, for some reason. I’ve had multiple instances of visibly hitting people but no damage being dealt; receiving stacked damage and dying in one hit; damage in cover etc.

As a PC player, I’ve noticed that console players in my lobbies are usually very laggy and hard to kill. They also seem to melt people unnaturally quickly, especially with SMG’s - aim assist could be playing a part in that too.

It’s just a mess and it makes me laugh that Bungo bother to include ‘competitive’ modes.

I can’t think of any modern games that have pvp use The peer to peer connection system like AT ALL.

Since BL and separately this seasons launch ive had distinct lag upticks.

Its completely unacceptable that crossplay cant be turned off, PS players are horribly laggy for everyone and matchmaking times are longer. I paid literally hundreds of dollars over the years buying expansions for this game and I don’t have the option to turn off crossplay.

Same here dude. Just dog shit bungo servers.

You’ll know you aren’t even close to host is when you peak and immediately die. That crap kills me inside because I know I have to play long and slow just to even have a chance. When it’s bad, it is bad!

Hi, I’m a comp sci. Does your router have any measures to prevent bufferbloat? I.e. does it have any kind of smart queue? Check http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest out and check the bufferbloat rating. If it’s bad it’d be a good time to switch yours with one with smart queue stuff.

Apart from this, make sure all your wires are in a good state, copper that faces air can cause very annoying packet loss. Also, do you experience lag in other games? Which other games you play?

Don’t know if anyone has said it yet but what is your upload speed? Destiny is P2P, download isn’t too much different to other games but Destiny is unique in that the upload is equal to the download requirements so that is why Destiny might be worse than other games. a lot of people have ok download but the upload is terrible and can be why they are so laggy. Lots of people talking about shooting through walls, should also mention that is the combination of crazy aim assist with lag, it’s not just the lag by itself and is why Destiny has so many instances of killing people behind walls.

I have enemies that literally walk through jotunn shots or phase through them in IB. Funny and infuriating at the same time.

People say wired vs wireless there is no difference, but wired connection on my ps5 and wireless is day and night.

When I am wired I run into no issues, when im wireless i get inconsistent speeds, some days its 300 mbps, and sometimes its 5 or 50. I have gigabit fiber as well. When im wired every time I test my connection I’m 700-900 mbps.

For browsing internet streaming, even my job as a software developer is just fine on wireless it really doesn’t matter but for fps competitive gaming, ethernet all day.

I don’t think I have any luck titan melee when I return the game. The animation played enemy took zero damage and I die most of time. Warlock as well slug is even worse . Especially Chappy … duality doesn’t seems to have this issue tho.

Could you try a VPN. I would suggest hide.me for the free one. There is a small chance this might make the situation better or fix it

Edit :- There is also speedify if you want free one and seems to have more free servers but the cap is a bit low. Just make sure to select torrent friendly server in the server settings and turn off start on startup

Sounds like either an issue with your computer or an issue with internet bandwidth. The latter would be unlikely across different places but as someone who lives in a rural area, before we had fibre we had 2 different connections, ADSL and 3G, both of them caused the same issues you list, though for different reasons, the ADSL connection had very low bandwidth, so despite low ping it was impossible to play most PvP games. The 3G connection had low ping and higher bandwidth, but it was unstable, the bandwidth would jump around all the time, and also resulted in very similar lag.

Some games make it more noticeable, in Apex Legends it was hard to tell there was an issue at all, in Destiny it was very bad, but if really *no other* game has it, then it’s more likely that there’s an issue with your install or your computer, the fact that it’s worse in Gambit also suggests that it’s a client-side issue rather than a connection issue. Check out your settings, see if lowering stuff makes it better, if not, then you should try deleting the game and installing again, if the problems persist, try downloading the Windows Store version of the game and see if it’s the same.

Yeah I came back after a while, hadn’t played consistently for nearly a year. And the connections are absolute dogshit. I looked around for a bit and saw they have enabled crossplay? I think that might be why it’s so laggy and hit reg is pretty much nonexistent.

I lost count the amount of times I died in the most puzzling ways - whether it be behind a wall/corner, just randomly environmentally, through like half of my shots simply not registering, and others. It’s purely unfun and very frustrating, and made the IB experience even worse than it already was.

Crossplay has made it much worse.
Although it’s a lot better now, it’s still a pain in Trials and IB.
Nothing more fun than trying to kill a wall humper who is reviving and killing your teammates while they are still grinding the wall on the other side of the map.

Get a vpn and change your region so you lag too

It is not you lagging it is the other way around and/or the Destiny server routing to your peer.

To the next Destiny 2 server I got a 22 ms ping. With other players it is 160 ms.
