Travelling for work to China, which VPN works over there?

Traveling to China for 3 weeks for work and leisure, which VPN works over there to access things like Whatsapp and Gmail?

Gmail and WhatsApp work in China if you are using a roaming sim such as spark. It’s only if you try and acess through their wifi or through a Chinese sim that it’s blocked.

I think your social credit score just dropped 1000 points.

Please report to your nearest secret police station hidden out the back of a laundromat.

Try over on /r/China, they’ll be able to give you the low down. Maybe have a couple of options, and make sure you sign up and enable it before you leave. Trying to sign up to a vpn while in China is difficult as the VPN sites are all blocked, funnily enough.

Just got back last week, for iphone, go on the app store and download “aox vpn”, it looks a little sus, but it’s the only working one I found.

It’s based in Hong Kong.

Unlike others say, neither ExpressVPN nor Nord works in China, as of August 2023.

I’m there right now. Let’sVpn works perfect and is cheap. I would make sure you set up WeChat and WeChat Pay as you can now add international cards. Have had only a single place not accept.

I was there few months ago, I used Nord vpn but extremely unreliable.

Roaming data from my international sim worked like a charm though, no issues at all. So I relied on that.

China. Lol… VPN there will get you your own room with shiny bars…

i get the feeling that shit’s illegal over there bro.

dont go n get yourself in the shit. just behave while you’re under their room fam.

NordVPN

Assume nothing on your computer and phone is secure. So take burners if there is anything important

I haven’t been to China lately but just came back from Singapore. Consider buying a eSim so you don’t have to switch out your sim. I used Nomad but they’re based in HK so tik tok was restricted otherwise everything else worked like a charm. Super easy to install and works well :).

straight to jail lmao… go to taiwan for good wifi

I’ve used ExpressVPN before on my previous trip (pre pandemic) and that works pretty good

Astrill VPN worked for me when Express VPN didn’t and it was the recommended VPN by a local i know but this was 4 years ago now.

Worked there 2019/2020 and Express VPN worked while nord VPN could never connect.

Nord VPN has a “meshnet” feature without the need to subscribe though which allows you to tunnel traffic through another device of yours, which if that device was in NZ, could act as your own personal VPN server. Never tried it out in china though.

The Great Firewall of China is pretty easy to get around if you have roaming on your phone.

Astrill is the most common in aware of.

If your phone is eSIM compatible, consider downloading the Yesim app for international coverage in 125+ countries. This eSIM requires only one-time installation and the app is really easy-to-use. You will not need to replace your SIM card + for IOS you will get a free VPN inside the app.
We are also giving an 8 EUR bonus to new users (5 EUR for the first top-up and 3 EUR with a promo code - bonus3), so the price for you will be rather low.

I just came back from China yesterday and l use LetsVPN. It’s super fast that l can watch Netflix and play games. Besides, it’s also very cheap compared to other VPN.
