US Gov says 'Don't use a VPN'. Should you trust it?

Lot’s of privacy talk from the US government lately.
I am curious there was nomention of Tor. But the government does recommend to use Apple’s private relay feature. What do you think?

Typically, if the government says something, I default to do the opposite, or at least research the opposite.

That being said, my favorite is to VPN my phone and laptop to my house, so it always looks like my traffic is coming from there.

Good joke XD never gonna touch it, from all companies Apple is definitely on the “fuck that” list.

because ot use vpn for google search, youtube, use vpn for torrent

That’s funny. The government itself makes extensive use of VPNs.

The video covers that; not as silly as it sounds.

On the other hand, a VPN has the effect of segregating some of your exposure. If your ISP is not able to see everything about your communications because a different entity (your VPN provider) is stealing it first, that’s actually good.

The gripping hand. however, is that (as the video says), VPNs have ISPs too, and correlating data between the two sides is likely profitable and easier than it sounds.

Still, potential marginal benefits of VPNs for privacy are still just one factor – security (think public wifi) and utility (watch foreign shows or shop while overseas) still make me see VPNs as worth the money.

What do you use to set that up?

I had running a pi zero with wireguard and pihole installed, pihole isn’t necessary. But now i have just bought a router, which has wireguard built in. And it’s easier to maintain. Flint 2 from gli.net
