Use VPN to trick bank app

I am currently living abroad and I have a bank account in my home country. Now, I’ve purchased a new phone so I need to login into my bank account. The problem is I won’t be flying back any time soon and the app doesn’t allow me to login if the geolocation of the phone isn’t my home country. I am able to get an OTP via the phone number connected to my account but the app still ‘knows’ I’m abroad somehow. Thing is it also asks me to turn off wifi in order to login the first time. So my questions are

  1. Does VPN work on mobile cellular
  2. Will VPN be able to ‘trick’ the app into thinking I’m in my home country (thus allowing me to login)?

Yes VPN works on mobile devices. I’ve used it to access foreign countries free steaming services.

Go to your settings and search for “region”. Change it, then restart your phone.

Turn on VPN for that same country.

Then access your app.

In my experience, the iPhone cache/history must be cleared for this to work.

I’ve never had to clear history or cache on my android/chrome tablet to access foreign countries free streaming apps.

A VPN likely won’t help. The app is likely using your phone’s AGPS, hence why they make you turn off WiFi.

Could be GPS or the location feature on your phone. Netflix thinks I’m in Germany, while Google knows exactly where I am.

Unfortunately, I did try this and the bank said we can’t help.

Good idea. OP can probably find a cloud vm on his country and do his banking there.

Assisted Global Positioning System. Basically your phone uses the satellite GPS, assisted by the local cell network to determine the phone’s location. As far as I know there is not a way, or easy way, to spoof this.

Destroyed :joy: good one
