Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had figured out if there is a way to spoof location services on the AppleTV. Im currently outside of the U.S. studying. I use a VPN’s smart DNS service which works for most streaming services, but specifically Hulu and YouTubeTV do not work (they do work on my Mac however). Even though I disallowed apps collecting information on my physical location from the AppleTV and use a VPN to give myself an American IP address, the apps still somehow know I’m not in America?
Thank you in advance.
Google FlowVPN. They have an open beta test for their tvOS app. I’ve been using it for a few months now. Works well so far.
What about using the VPN on your phone and then AirPlay from your phone to the Apple TV?
Can always use “ smart DNS “ as Im doing to get US stuff…
With the latest version of the OS this is enabled, in theory at least. I have been running the Betas of TVOS17 and as yet I have not been able to find a VPN app in the App Store. I have contacted Express VPN, who I have had an account with for years, and they were not able to tell me anything. I am hoping that things will develop/be revealed in the coming weeks once TVOS17 gets its public release.
I use a smart DNS service, but I plan on dropping them as soon as iOS 17 is out and VPN apps are available.
Interested in the same. Hope someone can assist
Look at Express VPN. Their media streamer functionality works very well.
As a workaround, you could always put a VPN box between your AppleTV and the internet. At some point I picked up this little Mango travel router (I think it was actually free with a 1 year VPN subscription I tried) which supports major VPN services. With something like that you would attach the WAN side to your network, the LAN side to your AppleTV, and then kick off a VPN connection, Mine will block all traffic if the VPN drops, which helps prevent leaks from client devices.
I used for years Smart DNS and sucks , nowI use IP Vanish and is great
I did this and it works! Cheers
This has worked for me when watching specific regional blackout areas for sports games.

Just messaged NordVPN on Twitter. This is what they said:
Me: “Hi! Do you guys have any news on a NordVPN app for AppleTV with the anticipated release of TVOS17 after Apple’s September event on Tuesday?”
NordVPN: “Hello, […]! We do not have any particular ETA sadly, but I can confirm that it is in our plans to have an app!”
This seems more concrete than what was said by the Verge. Though, seems like we won’t be getting it on TVOS 17 launch – unless their social media person is just playing coy. But hey, its nice that they’re planning on having one now.
I have been doing exactly the same thing with the GL.iNet GL-AR750. I like that you can program the manual switch on the side which I use to enable and disable my VPN when I need to.
No worries. It’s at a stage now where it’s very stable. I use it for various UK & US services in Germany and no issues at all.
Yup it’s quite a handy little box. Mine can be powered off a USB cable which makes it great for traveling.
Does it specifically tell you what cities in Canada it uses? I haven’t tried it yet
