VPN on your IPhone

I have Norton VPN on my phone , that would be enough to stop my internet provider and my telephone company to track my web browser and apps like TikTok , instagram and facebook or hackers ? I feel I am being monitored on my phone so I am trying to stop it , any advice would be appreciated!

Apple has required ATS (Application Transport Security) since around 2017 or so Jan 2017 or so

So most of the stuff you listed off there… is encrypted already.

If you have an iCloud+ Subscription, you could also turn on Private Relay: About iCloud Private Relay - Apple Support

Hypothetically, yes.

Who’d want to monitor you?

I turned on the private relay , but that works just for safari though ! I heard on a podcast that WhatsApp even though it’s encrypted the government has full access of it , along with Facebook , instagram that also belongs to Meta ! I really don’t know if VPN will do the trick to keep our privacy on this days , I don’t want to waste money to pay for a expensive VPN that isn’t giving the the privacy I expect !

Hypothetically yes ?
What that means

Sadly cybersecurity =/= privacy. We can’t really provide much if about privacy in this sub. There are other subs focusing on privacy though. Folks over there do have some hot takes but decent advices though.

Just VPN alone, you’re already more secure than many other fellow users. VPN can get you through more secure connections, access to other region’s node, bypass some censorship etc etc yada yada, but with a careless usage of internet and social media in general, those you posted by yourself be your digital footprints, lest the pile of cookies of whatever the services asked you to accept. The rest is pretty much a giant puzzle with many pieces. But anyway, ask folks at the privacy focus subs.

At least you’re using iPhone. Though iPhone is a bit like a walled garden but hey it’s p ok, as apps are relatively well sandboxed. Decent permission stuff as well.

Meta can already track you through the net, and it’s INTENSE.

In the whole E2E encryption like Whatsapp, Signal, Telegram and stuff, yeahhhhhh you’re right, not quite correct though. Full access or not, we can’t say that, but Whatsapp is closed source, we dunno if there’s backdoor or anything.

Anyway I use Proton VPN, subbed for some more specific work but I used its free plan for quite a long while. It’s good enough.

Dude, you already signed your privacy away if you already use the internet

Generally speaking, a VPN should protect you from prying, yes.

It means that if your ISP is spying on you (which you’ve provided no evidence of), a VPN would prevent that. It opens up the possibility for the VPN provider to spy on you, though.

And there’s very little traffic on the internet that doesn’t already use very similar encryption to a VPN. All they would really get is your DNS requests (so, they could see, for example, that you went to YouTube, but they wouldn’t know what videos you’re watching on YouTube). That’s without a VPN.
