UPDATE. Went with Nord VPN and it works great, logged in Miami and got around blackout!
I use Nord. And yes it works.
Question though…if the ESPN+ schedule says “National Broadcast”, does that mean blackout in KC area or no?
I’ve used Express Vpn to watch espn in the past. Im planning on using that. I’m confident it will work. I might try Nord as a backup.
I ran into issues last year using a new VPN service that hadn’t officially launched yet. I mention that because lots of times the streaming provider will identify the IP ranges used by a particular VPN service and just mass block that range so that may have not been quite as big a factor for me.
I may be looking at “alternative” methods.
It’s so disappointing that locally we have to do work to watch the game. The sport is growing in America but the TV time, while better, still feels like the 90s.

Doesn’t it just use your billing zip code to determine your location. I’m not sure VPN would matter.
I use the free hotspot shield. Turn it on, start the game, turn it off, enjoy. No need to keep it running the entire time. They only check your location when you start the stream. I do the same thing for MLB.
Does it still work with VPN even though ESPN + requires precise location to be enabled??
Hey, just curious if yours still works? I’ve used IPVanish for years - love it, and it’s worked great at getting around the NHL Blackout rules. Unfortunately as of yesterday, the ESPN app won’t even open on my Google Chromecast w/ GoogleTV if I have a VPN on. Just errors out and closes. As soon as I disable the VPN, it opens.
I’ve cleared cookies, cache, rebooted the GCwGTV, switched servers to different cities on the VPN, etc… but none of it worked.
Curious if ESPN finally figured out how to block everyone, or if it’s just an issue with IPVanish.

Nord is a fantastic VPN. Not great for torrenting, but everything else is top notch
What’s the best way to get Nord to work? I’ve had issues with getting it to work consistently.
How were you able to create an account? I’m Canadian and I can’t seem to get past the billing issue

If it is a national broadcast then it won’t be available on ESPN+ at all (I think the games on ESPN and ESPN2 show up 24 hours after the game not sure though).
You have to watch the nationally broadcast games on FOX/FS1/ESPN/ESPN2 etc.

Just went to check this out and no soccer, only football, hockey, baseball and basketball.
I’ve watched games on ESPN+ when I was out of town that were otherwise blacked out for the KC area. Additionally, I have SKC matches blacked out for me here in KC even though I use my brother’s account, with a billing zip code in San Diego.
As I understand the VPN allows you to choose the server (region) you ping from…hence choose a different region.
