While working from home on my company's VPN, Teams calls frequently drop

I generally never have any connection issues with my service, other than when I’m working from home and connected to my company’s VPN.

When on VPN, Teams calls will drop multiple times, the point that I have to disconnect from VPN in order to actually have a functioning call. I will also lose RDP sessions from time to time.

Our network guy says he’s not seeing any issues on our side with the VPN connection, so I wonder if maybe there’s a port being blocked or some other issue on Xfinity’s side. Our maybe our company’s ISP and Xfinity aren’t talking to each other somewhere along the way.

I have my own modem and router, not using the Xfinity gateway. But again, everything works generally flawlessly except for this one specific thing.

I work in IT so I’ve done all the basic troubleshooting, power cycling everything, checking that cables have a solid connection and aren’t loose, firmware is up to date etc. I’d rather not go through all the basic troubleshooting steps with a phone agent that I’ve already done.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or can an Xfinity rep DM me so this can be investigated? I suspect that this may be a “Tier 2” type of issue.

Thanks in advance :+1:

CORRECTION:

It’s not just dropping Teams, it’s dropping everything. I lose connection to the Internet entirely. So it seems like something is not playing nice between Xfinity and our company VPN. But I think other employees have Xfinity and they don’t have this issue. So I’m not sure what’s going on.

You might want to consider setting up a split tunnel, where traffic to your company’s network goes over the VPN but traffic to the Internet goes out directly over Xfinity.

Teams doesn’t need a VPN to work as its servers are on the regular internet. Also this will save your company bandwidth as they won’t have to carry as much of your traffic.

You may have to talk to your company’s IT department for instructions on setting it up if the VPN client doesn’t make it obvious.
