Why can’t I load websites when connected to ProtonVPN? It only loads after disconnecting.
Update:
I have tried using their Smart Protocol option and it worked for me. See reference here:
https://protonvpn.com/support/how-to-change-vpn-protocols/
However, now that the websites load while connected to ProtonVPN, I noticed a huge drop in internet speed.
Download is now 15mbps from 100+mbps
Upload 5mbps from 15mbps
I’ll try manually switching between IKEv2, WireGuard, OpenVPN (UDP), and OpenVPN (TCP) protocol within application settings to see what will work for me.
It must be an issue on their end, because my connections were doing the same thing since yesterday. I noticed that the issue occurred on some servers, but not others.
I suspect we will just have to wait for them to sort it out.
Maybe overloaded servers? Try a different location.
I’ve been having this issue yesterday, with a PR_CONNECTION_RESET error. But just on some websites, not all. I use an OpenVPN connection on a router
This is from the DNS server on their VPN server not responding to your computer’s DNS requests (aka, your PC is asking it what the IP for engadget.com is and the DNS server on their side isn’t responding so your PC doesn’t know the IP needed to get there). I made a post about noticing this happen at random on the US-IL#60-68 servers but it seems afew others it’s happening on as well.
Might be the servers their using for DNS are getting overloaded with requests.
Can you try adjusting some of the in-app settings, like setting Netshield to ‘Block malware’ only, or turn off ‘Alternative routing’ to see if this helps? You can also try switching to a different protocol (e.g. WireGuard).
If this persists, please report the issue through the option in the App menu, if you’d like help to investigate this in more detail.
Which protocol are you using? I suggest you try the protocol that gives you more speed, if that’s what you’re after.
Can you open a support ticket from within the app directly please?
Please report those servers directly from within the app.
It happens on any server, unfortunately.
