I tried to get into Mozilla VPN in order to support Mozilla’s work, but I constantly have issues on both Arch Linux and Android, it’s been months.
On Arch Linux, the app is frequently broken after updates with “background service error” and “VPN tunnel activation fail”. I’m aware the only official Linux support is for Ubuntu, any feedback from Ubuntu users?
On Android, the issue is that the VPN will disable itself without a warning after a couple of hours, which is a major security issue.
So what’s up with their development? Do they have a staffing problem currently, and can I expect this paid service to get to an acceptable level of service soon?
I used Mullvad before and didn’t have these issues, afaik it’s based on its network. Should I just get back to Mullvad ?
Edit: for the Arch Linux part, it seems rebooting has solved the issue for now.
I recently canceled my subscription because the Android version would silently stop working multiple times a day.
I raised a ticket with support and was told it would be fixed in two different versions. After waiting almost six months for the second of those fixes when it showed up it didn’t work.
Over this same period the Windows version went from rock solid to flaky as hell.
I don’t quite know how they managed it. Both versions were fine on launch and yet got steadily worse.
Thank you for your recommendation. But it does question why paying Mozilla instead of Mullvad if I have to use someone else’s work to make their product work.
But yeah I would tend to agree, Mozilla VPNs value proposition is unclear especially now that the price is not particularly advantageous (it was when it first launched).
