I’ve set up VPN server in my FRITZ!Box 4040. Using Android and IPSec VPN client (native mobile system function) I’m able to connect to my LAN from outside my network.
Question is - is there a way to do the same without installing proprietary Fritz! software? Problem is, that I want to have access to my home LAN from my office, but IT policy won’t allow me install any software.
I was trying to enter new VPN connection in “native” Windows VPN, but there are too few fields, comparing to Fritz! VPN settings:
Fritz!Box VPN
Windows VPN (L2TP/IPSec with preshared key)
Server address / Server
Server name of address
OK
IPSec ID / Group name
field missing
IPSec key / Shared secret
Pre-shared key
is it the same?
username
username
OK
password
password
OK
So, is there any workaround that I can connect to my LAN using only “native” Windows functions?
I have used Shrewsoft VPN in the past for this scenario. It’s a little old but still works on Windows 10. But yes that needs to be installed as well.
Maybe you can use a Raspberry Pi in your network instead and configure the protocols the right way.
Or do the same but then with a device at work, that you put in between the computer and the network.
It is also not windows native, and it needs a weird configuration file, you cannot just put in the credentials etc. Why easy, if you can make it complicated?
I have just encountered this today and it’s the craziest shit I’ve ever seen.
I can not believe how complicated and terrifying it is, some of the process sounds like it will wipe the fritzbox back to factory?
Why do I need to import a file into the modem itself (!?!!?) There’s an account on there, it works for Android VPN already, I just want to connect to it.
It’s insane how complicated and crazy this, it’s insane.
I can see exactly why I stopped using these things for myself.
You are correct and that is also what you wrote in your first reply.
That is why I wrote that indeed it needs to be installed, and why I gave a suggestion for a possible workaround.
