Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop through VPN?

So I have a HP Proliant DL360 G7 that runs Windows Server 2019. I really want to use a remote desktop tool, and I’ve tried Windows’ Built-in solution, but I can’t seem to get it to work. Is there any good solution out there that allows me, if I am in another country, to connect to my server using a VPN, a remote desktop tool (not TeamViewer or anything, I mean like an actual user, for example I connect to the server using my “Deadline” user, and basically it’s a session where I can access certain file paths etc)? Any and all suggestions are much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I figured it all out! I downloaded and I am now using SoftEther, which was really easy to set up. Thanks for all the suggestions regardless!

RDP works fine, just solved that part. However, the VPN I’ve set up (which is a guide I found on the web) does not seem to work. Do you know what I need in order to get my VPN to work?

That doesn’t seem as secure as a VPN

What VPN are you using? If you put it on a separate VLAN, you’ll likely need to setup some routes so your VPN can talk to your other gear.

Do you have any recommendations? I am kinda new to this whole set up thing as this is my second server

I’m using the built in VPN thing from Windows. It’s on the same server

Edit: I would be thankful for an alternative, if you know of any

What are you using for a router / firewall?

For now, an Altibox router (a generic router), that does have a firewall, and I also have Windows Firewall enabled

it sounds like you need a decent firewall solution that you can piggy back VPN services on so you have an entry point into your network. running VPN on the same box you’re wanting to RDP into isn’t going to be an ideal setup.

Well, I do agree, but I just wanna know how to set this up so that I can try it out and experiment with it. It might not be my permanent solution, but for now I just wanna try it out
