Ability to pick separate Plus plans

Is there any plan or ETA for adding the ability to subscribe to different subscription plans at once? To pick Plus plans for more services than just one?

The option to buy either two Plus Plans or Unlimited is a huge price difference.

Best plan pricing for every service:

  • Mail Plus: 3.49€/month for 2 years
  • Drive Plus: 3.99€/month for 2 years
  • VPN Plus: 4.49€/month for 2 years
  • Pass Plus: 1.99€/month for 1 year
  • Proton Unlimited: 7.99€/month for 2 years

Now the combinations of the Plans:

  • Mail Plus with Drive Plus is cheaper than Unlimited - 7.48€/month vs 7.99€/month - diff 0.51€/month
  • Mail Plus with VPN Plus is the same price as Unlimited - 7.98€/month vs 7.99€/month - diff 0.01€/month
  • Mail Plus with Pass Plus is cheaper than Unlimited - 5.48€/month vs 7.99€/month - diff 2.51€/month
  • Drive Plus with VPN Plus is more expensive than Unlimited - 8.39€/month vs 7.99€/month - diff -0.4€/month
  • Drive Plus with Pass Plus is cheaper than Unlimited - 5.89€/month vs 7.99€/month - diff 2.1€/month
  • VPN Plus with Pass Plus is cheaper than Unlimited - 6.48€/month vs 7.99€/month - diff 1.51€/month

This average difference between 2 Plus plans and Unlimited is 1.04€/month, starting at some irrelevant savings (or no saving at all in one case) to some huge savings of 2.51€/month that could buy you another privacy-focused service, or just save a buck.

And this is without any additional possible savings, that could Proton offer for picking one more service to your existing Plus Plan.

If somebody uses more than 2 services out of the Proton portfolio, it would be better to subscribe to Unlimited. If you need only 2, you could subscribe to only those 2 services.

This seems like a good option to Proton also, as I do not see many users picking an Unlimited subscription for only 2 services. The price difference between having an Unlimited Proton plan, and having only one Plus plan and the second needed service elsewhere or both elsewhere under one hood is huge.

My story: I am currently an Unlimited user, but I am transitioning to the home server, which means my needs for Proton Drive and photo backup are gone. I am barely using a VPN service. This made me think as I am paying almost 200€ for 2 years of all Proton services, that my needs from Proton would be changed from all/almost all services to only Proton Mail and Pass, but there is no way to get only those two. This would mean I have to continue with a 200€ subscription for e-mail service and password manager, or I would be looking elsewhere with all services - which would be a shame considering the Proton mission.

You just discovered upselling

Wait… you can‘t do that? I‘ve been thinking about getting a subscription but I would only use mail and pass since I already have a Nextcloud instance and don‘t use a VPN (unless it‘s for work which is provided by my employer anyway)

I tried proton unlimited for 1 month to try out all the services and ended up dropping it down to just mail plus.

Mail - I really like, have no real issues with it other than that the email aliases is part of pass rather than mail which is annoying.

Pass - It’s fine but I much prefer the flexibility of bitwarden and it’s much cheaper at €10 per year.

Drive - no native Linux app, not interested.

VPN - I found it it be slower than surfshark with a much worse Linux app.

So I was initially annoyed at the pricing but after trying everything I only actually wanted 1 service anyway.

I’m waiting for separate plan offering my self . currently I have proton pass plus for 12$ a year for life and would like to add a drive subscription like 200GB I have canceled googles offering. With email I’m happy with free version for now. It would be awesome if you can cherry pick the things you really need!

proton unlimited is cheaper than spotify premium so im definitely not complaining about proton prices lol

Unlimited is exactly 1.50 €/mo overpriced

No you can’t. You can get only one Plus subscription or Unlimited.

I purchased the Pass Plus plan, then bought the VPN plus plan thinking I could have two different subs but nope, tried to access Pass Plus features and tells me to upgrade - looked into my account and it only shows VPN plus and ended up searching Reddit and landed here lol. It did credit my account when I purchased VPN plus after Pass Plus

I totally get you but VPN and surfshark? lmao

I am in the same exact boat! I have the most use for Drive above the other services (besides Pass) but I don’t want to lose my $1/mo pricing for Pass.

That’s a great comparison, because as soon as you want more than 1 user, the price hike is crazy steep.

Proton Family is $29.99 compared to Spotify Duo at $16.99.

in which country? I’m paying 7+ euros/month for Spotify premium *Duo*, and Proton Unlimited is almost 2x more expensive.

Still isn’t, you can move whole Proton Drive (500GB) to any 50€ one time purchased SSD stored out of your house. Since Drive is not offering any more storage options, only 500GB, it is more than easy to not need it in this situation.

Well that sucks. Guess that makes my decision easier then

that doesn’t make sense. this is written somewhere? why can’t you buy 2 subscriptions? of any plan?

I hear mixed things from people of Surfshark but I’ve had a really good experience with them for a good price.

Tbh… I’ve used both and I had less problems with Surfshark connectivity/speed wise. Not a big deal, but :person_shrugging:.

Proton Family is $29.99 compared to Spotify Duo at $16.99.

For 6 users though, 3 TB of space (6x more than Unlimited), more addresses, custom domains etc…
