AdGuard not working at all on Safari since macOS Sequoia release?

Hello,

I’ve installed macOS Sequoia on the release on monday and since then it doesn’t work at all on Safari. Everything is up to date, I relaunched everything but I’ve ads everywhere even though AdGuard says that it’s working.

Does anyone have similar issues?

I run macOS Sequoia 15.0 (24A335) and AdGuard 2.15.1.1731

Update:

I contacted the support and got this answer:

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting AdGuard Support and for your patience!

Apple has finally released macOS Sequoia, an update that many innovation enthusiasts have been waiting for. However, some issues have been affecting AdGuard users:

- Private Relay prevents Safari filtering: A bug with which Apple’s Private Relay feature disrupts AdGuard filtering on Safari. Issue details(Ads not blocked in Safari on macOS Sequoia with iCloud Private Relay enabled · Issue #1467 · AdguardTeam/AdguardForMac · GitHub).

- The path to network extension permissions has been changed: To resolve issues with AdGuard, users must now manually configure the settings by navigating to Login Items & Extensions, scrolling to the end, clicking the “i” icon next to AdGuard, and turning on the switch. More information (Incorrect `Network Extension` permission path in macOS Sequoia · Issue #1434 · AdguardTeam/AdguardForMac · GitHub).

- AdGuard requires Network permissions: This is essential for filtering other browsers on macOS Sequoia.

We look forward to your response and will be happy to assist you further.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get back to us. We wish you a great day!"

To be honest I am not very comfortable with all these settings so I do not know exactly where to go… I tried to change the setting they are talking about in the second link about “path to network extension” but the switch was already on.

Hi, try to switch DNS in the settings to ADGuard DNS and then disable/enable ADGuard

Is iCloud private relay and/or private WiFi address enabled?

edit

Do you mean the extension?

FWIW it works fine on Sequoia for me.

Same here! I have Adguard for macOS, and it works just fine on other browsers. But after the macOS Sequoia upgrade, it stopped working on Safari.

Yep same issue here, on two Macs (M1 Air and M2 mini).

In case you haven’t solved this yet, here’s what worked for me:

AdGuard Settings > Network > Filtering Mode > Automatic Proxy

Don’t waste your time here and just contact the adguard developers, they will answer, help and probably fix this error for everyone in the future. The main thing is to report.

Works fine, I use the app and not the extension though.

I’m having the same issue. Tried re-installing Adguard didn’t help, nor the update you gave. Not sure what to do here. the iOS version still works like a charm though

Update: This issue still exists in 15.1. However, a workaround is listed in the first link.

Go to AdGuard Setting → Network → Filter Mode → Automatic Proxy

This fixed my issue immediately. Been driving me crazy for MONTHS.

This could just be me, but it seems AdGuard is working again in macOS Sequoia 15.1. I just removed the AdGuard for Safari, which was a workaround that worked for me, but I hated the idea of having two versions of AdGuard installed when I pay for the AdGuard Desktop app.

Is anyone else seeing it work under 15.1?

You probably only need the first one - there’s a comment in the GitHub thread toward the end where someone describes how to switch to network proxy mode as a workaround. That worked for me.

Thank you so much for posting this. It was driving me crazy, this is a must have for me.

Turning off Private Relay worked for me. Thank you!

Thanks, works for me

worked for me too thanks!!!

Yes everything is enabled. iCloud private relay is on and the extension on Safari says it’s on also. I guess it’s related with the recent macOS update and will be patched in some way but I was wondering if it was just on my side or for everyone.

Had the same issue and this worked, thank you very much.

Thanks. This saved me a lot of time.
