My query here is that since it is a free product/service to try out. People recommend it as a VPN service. But reviews on websites suggest it doesn’t do the job particularly well.
Does anyone have any insight that might help on the topic? Any help is appreciated
Also if someone understands the difference between the 2 modes of this app? It’s shown in the images below.
My understanding is that it blocks your ISP from viewing your traffic, but it doesn’t cover your IP address from being viewed. Again, that’s how I understand it, but I could be wrong.
For me, I don’t mind the website knowing my IP address, as I just want to block my ISP. As for the app, it works great on iPad, but I have a lot of trouble getting to to remain connected consistently on Mac.
I know I’m very late to this, but u/beethoven_678 is correct, that your traffic is prevented from being viewed by your ISP.
Essentially, Cloudflare WARP is a fancy Wireguard VPN. All of the traffic is encrypted between you and Cloudflare’s data centers. If you travel to a website that isn’t hosted on Cloudflare (such as typing “what’s my IP” into Google), they’ll see Cloudflare’s IP, just like a normal VPN. If you’re however browsing a website hosted on the Cloudflare network, that website will see your real IP. Straight from the CEO, WARP is supposed to speed up the feel of your Internet by using the cache on a Cloudflare data center and using 1.1.1.1, not hide your IP.
+ Cloudflare WARP can be used like a VPN for accessing local resources remotely using Cloudflare for Teams
Oh, great thanks for that. Yeah staying in India even I prefer not sharing my browsing with my ISP.
Isn’t it a concern if the website can access my IP? Can’t they also track me that way? Just asking since I’m a noob.
Unfortunately, it only opens as a menu bar icon not an app screen on mac. And apart from the screenshots I provided there’s another dropdown. But no where is the (?) icon.
Haha I don’t know too much, myself, but I believe you could be tracked by websites that can view your IP. Honestly, I just haven’t be personally concerned enough to invest in a trustworthy full VPN, so this is what I’m using at the moment. But you might care more about IP tracking, which this wouldn’t prevent.
No, I don’t really. WARP is more like a VPN I believe, and 1.1.1.1 is a DNS server instead of routing traffic through your ISP’s DNS server. I think WARP does that and more, I just don’t know what the “more” is lol.
One more clarification regarding your ip. If you connect to a website that useses cloudflares network then your public ip will be exposed to the site, if you connect to a website that doesn’t use cloudflares network the site will not see your ip.
Hey thanks for the information. is there a specific VPN service that hides my ip and protects my data from the browsers and also my ISP? I think my ISP might be recording my searches. But don’t know which VPN is good. I don’t mind paying as well. If you could kindly guide me.
If you want to do that you need a paid vpn service like Nord VPN, mullvad, private internet access, etc. I have used pia in the past (pretty good service) but I’d recommend doing some research as they have been required by kape technologies.
I haven’t really used a proper VPN in a long while (sry).
In vpns there are 2 main protocols OpenVPN and wireguard.
Wireguard (what cloudflare uses drains far less batter than OpenVPN) typically.
That being said what you are doing over the VPN (ie streaming video or cloud gaming can affect battery more data used typically means more battery drain regardless of VPN as your phone has to encrypt And decrypt data heading through the VPN).
