Connecting over 5G - T-Mobile

I can’t seem to be able to connect over T-Mobile manually. I’ve set the port forwarding on the Asus Router and tested it over WiFi and it works but not over data internet on iPhone.

Interestingly if i connect my iPhone to ExpressVPN I can connect over data to my PS5 on data. So T-Mobile must be blocking ports.

OTOH i tried with the Sony remote play and that works over data w/o VPN but I assume that connects automatically via PSN

Does anyone else use T-Mobile here and is there a way to whitelist those ports ?

Did you try the automatic remote connection in PSPlay as well? It also uses PSN to connect, you just have to activate that feature in the streaming settings of PSPlay. Afterwards you can use the automatic remote connection in the remote connection dialog. Only if that fails you have to configure your router but keep in mind that these port forwarding settings can only be used when you are chosing the manual remote connection (where you have to enter the IP of your router)

I don’t believe it’s tmobile I’ve had this error as well. Happened when I opened ports for both consoles. Ps4 and ps5. I removed ps4 ones and started working fine.

Did you ever get it to work I’m in the same boat now :sob:

I was having this same problem and finally figured out a fix. T-Mobile’s 5G UC connection does not seem to like remote play. Going into cellular settings on my phone and turning off Automatic will show two T-Mobile options. As soon as I changed it to the option that drops the UC off the top of my screen remote play started working fine again.

That one fails as well: https://imgur.com/a/qPDLA0d

If I enable VPN it gets further during handshake but still fails: https://imgur.com/a/mFnGC0c

Yeah I double checked and it seems T-Mobile is blocking manual connection, gives this error: https://imgur.com/a/mFnGC0c

I have an adguard software on Asus called Diversion and disabled it and no dice.

I removed the PS4 only port and it didn’t make any difference. Are you on T-Mobile ? which plan if I may ask.

It only works if you use a vpn. Sony’s official app doesn’t need vpn but it’s slower to connect / play. Some reps at T-Mobile told me gaming over udp isn’t working on newer 5G plans

Yes it seems they are blocking UDP port 9296 and 9297. Not sure why, but the could not start stream connection means that the connection handshake was successful but the stream initialization was not (which happens on udp port 9296 and 9297)

I believe it’s tmobile one plan.

Uuuf I don’t know how far back. But 5g was still not around lol
But I still get 5g uc even tho It’s not in my plan

I tried at work over wifi and it connected np using automatic or manual and it is very fluid. I’ll contact T-Mobile to see why they block the ports…

I’ll try it later today @ work on work Wifi to see how it goes… worst case I can set up a proxy, because VPN slows down things considerably even with the lowest encryption protocols.

I had a long chat with T-Mobile today online, basically they told me gaming online where the app requires to communicate over udp ports is not supported.

I looked online and some people can connect, it’s possible they use a different apn

Just curious how the Sony’s remote app can still work on data over nat 2 ? Do they use specific APIs that you can’t use ?

It’s t-mobile. Their mobile data blocks ports, if you have a Hotspot plan you can play with t mobile but it will drain your Hotspot data. I just went through this lol.
