I mostly used my shield for geforce now until recently setting up kodi and looking into setting up a plex server. Should I be using a VPN while getting media from the gettin place? I have never used one before so any advice or suggestions appreciated.
If “the gettin place” involves the smallest amount of data a computer can deal with and a word for a lot of water, then yes.
Yes, you should absolutely use a VPN if you are getting stuff from the getting place. Lots of VPNs out there but take a look at Private Internet Access. You can use it on your main computer to get stuff AND you can put the android app on your shield in case you need to access content that may not be available in your country.
It depends on where you live. If you live in Canada you don’t need a VPN to safely get from the gettin place. If you are in the US you definitely need a VPN. I’m not sure about other countries.
I would recommend getting a VPN just to be on the safe side.
I’ve used ExpressVPN for years and always had great speeds regardless of which country I connect to. It has apps for majority of devices and has split tunneling so only certain apps use the VPN connection and everything else uses your regular connection if you prefer that.
Even has custom firmware that certain routers can use so you can have the VPN directly on your router instead of individual devices.
PIA was recently acquired by a scummy company. I’d look elsewhere, I say this as a PIA user.
I’d go with Mullvad. I believe they’re one of the most secure.
+1 to PIA. Use the LTT code if you go for it to save on the price
Thank you getting it now
Got Mullvad setup with OpenVPN.
Added exceptions for Netflix and Prime.
Runs great.
I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
