I read about this online and wondering if it is actually worthwhile trying to find cheaper flights by using a VPN and pretending to be in another country?
Some guy from the US said he could find cheaper flights but as soon as he tried paying with his US credit card, it would automatically redirect him to the US site and update the pricing accordingly.
Very interested to see if people in Ireland do this and if they end up with the same result?
BTW I am planning to do my own research on it at some point in the coming weeks but wanted to get people’s feedback first.
Doesn’t work - more bollocks spouted out by travel influencers who are sponsored by VPNs.
I tried but it didn’t seem to make it any cheaper.
American here - seems to go against everyone’s experience but I once bought a flight Boston - Brazil for $250 cheaper with VPN in Switzerland and Boston CC address. One minute before I bought, I compared prices without VPN, so it wasn’t a byproduct of me buying the flight. Good luck
Edit: this was within the past two years, and on my work laptop for a Swiss company. Not sure if there was other factors at play bc it was a work machine. But it is possible
Airlines sell on available seats, not available seats & country specific prices with a massive mark-up.
They like to keep their accounting clean and simples. Have done for decades. The cost of administration of what you are describing means airlines will never do it. The technology & management required to manage this kind of pricing negates any profit gain.
Anyone tells you otherwise is telling you fiction.
It looks like your post is about travel! If you’re looking to come to Ireland and want advice about that we highly recommend also posting/crossposting to r/IrishTourism.

It doesn’t work for cheaper flights, but it sometimes works for cheaper hotels and rental cars
I tired before but it didn’t work for me but if anyone figures it out ,do post it!
Don’t think it’s true but you could try incognito mode and see if it makes a difference
Dublin is literally one of the cheapest places to fly from. What you pay from here compared to what you pay for an equivalent distance from pretty much anywhere else is usually so much less …where do you expect to find these cheaper flights?
Google flights website is the best
Second this. Also looked at a different sale country on ITA Matrix and it had no effect.
I don’t expect it at all tbh, I was just asking for people’s experiences. And I’ve got the responses I was expecting tbh.
They don’t. They have X number of seats to fill. They have % of seats to sell on every flight to at certain prices.
Because there are costs that are averaged across their network (staff, fuel, airport fees etc.) the prices charged to customers are also averaged based on the above factors.
In my professional experience, if you see lower prices from one city over an another, it is to do with supply & demand.
Disclaimer, I worked in airline yield finance for 17 years. If you have a different take, perhaps the airlines you work for have a better approach to business.
Not looking for a row! Would genuinely love to hear how these things are managed in your experience.
