Heyo! I can not seem to get the Firefox extension working at all. I am logged in with a paid account, and when trying to connect the extension will say it is connected. However, upon trying to load a web page, I get a “Secure Connection Failed” error in Firefox. I have tried changing network.trr.mode to every setting from 0-5, all with no luck. I have also tried a new Firefox profile in case any of my settings were causing issues, but a brand new profile has the same issue. Does anybody know how to fix this? Cheers!
Facing the same issue. Couldn’t get any webpage loading with the extension. I end up using Windows app finally.
This is an issue I was having on both chrome and firefox browsers. For me it turned out to be DNS settings issues within the browser that was causing issues. I basically had to set them to use default, instead of some alternative.
Hi! Can you please contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support-form so we can investigate further? Thank you in advance.
I’ve been having trouble with the Proton VPN Firefox extension on my free account. It won’t connect to any servers, and support has only sent me generic responses that haven’t helped. Has anyone else experienced this or found a workaround?
No luck unfortunately. Seemingly randomly websites will now load, but the VPN doesn’t appear to actually be doing anything. In a speedtest, my ping doesn’t rise and my internet speeds don’t fall, even when connecting to servers that are on the other side of the world from me.
Thanks for the reply! I already reached out to support before making this post, they said they were working on resolving the issue but there was no ETA at the moment. I know sometimes the community can figure out workarounds to issues, so thought it would be worth making this post as well to see if anyone had any advice.
Hi! It’s not possible to use the browser extension on a free VPN plan: https://protonvpn.com/support/browser-extensions/
Wait, so while on vpn your still able to visit a website to do speed tests?
Thank you for the reply, it wasn’t so clear on your site, it says “1 VPN connection, 245 servers in 6 countries”. I assumed I can choose 1 free connection from all these 245 servers. It’s strange, but I downloaded (as a free user) ProtonVPN app, I can connect as a free user to the fastest available server (close to my location). Can’t choose the country though.
Ah I see, you’re now able to randomly access website. Does the speed test site reflect the location where the VPN states it connected you?
Currently yes. Didn’t change anything, not sure why it’s letting things load now as compared to yesterday. VPN says “Protected”, but nothing changes in my speed or ping, and my IP and ISP are still visible as well. Changing network.trr.mode to all possible values had no effect.
That’s right, it’s not possible to manually select the country/specific server to connect to, while on the free plan. You can, however, choose to reconnect to a different server, other than the one that was initially assigned to you.
Nope. Shows my current ISP along with a location that’s just one town/city over from where I am. Even connecting to somewhere like Japan or New Zealand changes nothing (I live in the US).
Also just an add, that network trr change you made, never worked for me, I lose all access to the web when I change that option in Firefox
Hmmm and I’m assuming you’ve attempted reinstalling the extension many times by now?
And your sure you’ve disabled whatever dns setting the browser might be using?
