For Canadians who want to watch Tour de France

Ok, so what I did was get a VPN as suggested ( about $12 CDA/ month) and I go to SBS in Australia to watch for free, in the mornings. Thank you to those of you who gave that advice. Works great, and the coverage is as well.

Oh and fuckkkk FloBikes haha

There will definitely be a highlights programme on ITV, I can’t remember if ITV4 will also show the full stage live.

Edit: others seem to think it will. I do vaguely recall switching between the two depending on whose commentary I preferred on the day

ITV show the TdF live. Depending on the day they show the majority but don’t always show from km 0 but do summarise it. ITV is free to watch so long as you are in (or appear to be in) the UK.

I’m in Canada and thought I’d do the same. I set my VPN to the UK and setup an ITV profile. But when I tried watching anything on ITV, I kept getting an error. They didn’t have any explanation for that error, but when I dug around a bit, it looks like its blocking some VPN IP addresses. I tried 2 different UK sites that my VPN offers and same issue. I’ll be trying GCN* now and hope it works!

GCN+ platform and app is absolute shit. spoil the races. Impossible to find any races because they don’t list them logically. dont show the stages of a race in any logical or coherent manner. How hard it is to list stages like episodes. Literally every other streaming platform has the tech to do seasons amd episodes of shows. WTAF.

GCN is The. worst. And they have that Irishman you can’t understand announcing.

Do they show full stages? Live and replay?

Is this the right url? Seems to not be active

They have Stage 2 live.
It says “Preview” so I’m gonna assume this won’t last many more stages…

They did stages 1,2 and 8 or 9. They said they will air replays of a couple more stages.

Putting on ads. I’ve already paid a bazillion dollars to watch.
Putting on ads (that you can’t fast forward!!!) within the last kilometre of a sprint stage. Stage 4! Every time you want to go back or forward to replay a portion of the last KM you have to watch the ducking ads again.

Your point 1–TV rights aren’t given to Canadian stations, or any other stations. They’re purchased by the broadcasters. Their purchase costs are then offset by advertising during the event. If it’s not being shown on broadcast TV in Canada, it’s because none of the broadcasters were interested in purchasing the rights, possibly because they wouldn’t be able to recover the costs from advertising during the event. Advertising rates are based on the expected audience so, if it’s more of a niche event, the ad rates will be lower. With the TdF, it takes place at an awkward time for a lot of the Canadian audience so, if you put a replay on your cable network or over the air during evening hours, you’ll have to displace more popular events like CFL and MLB. If you want to complain to somebody about it, complain to TSN and SportsNet. You probably won’t get too far, though, because it’s all about the economics. SportsNet used to carry it on their streaming service. If they dropped it, they either got outbid by FloSports or they decided to drop it because it wasn’t worth it to them.

And, don’t forget, your Flobikes login will get you all 20+ sports on the FloSports network.

Your point 3–what Canadian service are you referring to? The TdF is French and FloBikes is part of FloSports, which is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

You have my interest. What web site/TV station am I looking for once I’m virtually in the netherlands?

Would that have Dutch commentary?

Awesome, this has worked for me. Already had a gcn sub. But now the problem is that I can’t cast from the app for some crazy reason.

GCN has the worst platform ever. Why they can’t figure out how to organize the races to make them easy to find, and show stages as episodes of a race rather than a random entry on the app…oof, they are a bunch of amateurs with the absolute works app/platform. Sooooo painful

I usually find Peacock horrible but willing to try anything that works. I suspect Peacock uses US commentators?

The GCN platform and app are shit.

What content GCN+ can show you depends on what country you’re in. For us in Canada FloBikes has exclusive rights to the Tour so GCN+ won’t show it to us.

That’s why we need to use the VPN to the UK, or one of the other countries they show the tour in, and then open the app to trick it into thinking we’re sitting there.

Yup, my mistake. My FloBikes anger got me twisted up! It’s fixed now
