How to setup NordVPN on a router?

Hey guys! I’ve been trying to setup NordVPN on a router but I’ve been having trouble. The goal is to set up a network that I can connect my Roku stick to and connect to a polish server for my mother to use to browse Netflix.

I saw a suggestion to use a Tp-link WR902AC as that would have VPN client support, but I can’t find the settings that NordVPN describes in their guide, nor any TP-link resources that were useful.

Perhaps I made a mistake? Is this travel router not capable of what I’m asking of it? Or is there just a process I’m not aware of…

Thanks a bunch guys!

Sadly, you will not be able to set up the VPN on the WR902AC router, since it does not support OpenVPN protocols. Nord discontinued supporting PPTP and L2TP protocols a long time ago, as they are outdated and not really secure.

I really wish it was possible to have manual wireguard configs . Openvpn is just kinda slow on my router .

Use a Gl.inet travel router. They are amazing and affordable. You can get them on Amazon.

Damn that sucks.

How about if I install openWRT on it? Sorry I’m a bit new to all this, but I read that installing openWRT on a router would give me the option I’m looking for?

Allows you to extract the Wireguard config from Nord so you can run on a router or any Wireguard client. Works well.

Definitely seem interesting after a quick look, do you have any recommendations on which model I should choose for this intended use (literally one TV streaming Netflix?)

If OpenWRT is supported on that router, then that would be a fine option. Look into running Wireguard though. OpenVPN will be very slow on the router.

If OpenWRT is not supported on the router, the Belkin RT3200 from Walmart for $50 (assuming you are in the US) cannot be beat. Full OpenWRT support.

Thanks ! That would be great . My only issue is that I run windows so some of the Ubuntu terminal commands might not work out for me .

watch out some vpn IPs will get blocked very quickly. Use dedicated VPNs. If you are looking for a hardware dedicated VPN solution have a look at flashedrouter.com
