I pay for their streaming service and use a VPN legally for privacy. Why are they allowed to block VPN users? I understand that their shows are licensed for US users only, but honestly, that’s bullshit.
why would that be illegal?
I understand that their shows are licensed for US users only
This is the explanation right here. The companies that own the shows and movies Hulu has to pay for a license to stream placed restrictions on the license that only allow Hulu to stream the content to US customers. Those companies also license this same content to other streaming companies outside the US with restrictions on which countries’ citizens can view the content through those services.
Like it or not, Hulu is bound by the agreements they signed to be allowed to stream that content to only stream it to US customers. If you are coming in on a VPN connection they cannot tell where you are located (obviously) so they are required by the terms of those licensing agreements to block you from accessing their service.
Welcome to the world we have, not the world we want. It would be nice if the licensing agreements did not have restrictions like this, but they do and I doubt that is likely to change anytime soon.
I understand that their shows are licensed for US users only, but honestly, that’s bullshit.
So you literally understand why. Thus I don’t understand the question. If they … officially allowed it, they are condoning violating the regional licensing agreements for their content.
I am kinda baffled why you think this should be illegal.
That said, if Hulu is detecting your VPN and preventing you from watching stuff, your VPN could be kinda sucky.
A lot of places block VPN like facebook and youtube. They are able to detect VPN’s because they ping through differing IP addresses constantly. Your VPN might have a setting to use a single IP address instead of passing through multiple, which will make your VPN undetectable and bypass the blocking system.
Otherwise, piracy.
This is why r/piracy
They are a private business and can set the rules they want. If you’re in a contract with them and the services change, you should be able to get out of that contract. If you’re monthly, you just cancel your subscription. I would be pretty surprised if they don’t already have use of VPN against their TOS for a long time now, meaning you likely already agreed to this condition even. They just found a better way to detect and enforce it.
I want to point out that many streaming service actually forbid you from using a VPN in their terms of service. So by using a VPN it is you who are breaking the rules.
No. You’re not paying for the service based on what they give your area based on what they pay to stream.
Also get a better VPN because mine works fine for Hulu and Disney Plus.
I thought that too but it’s happening to me too now. I have tried multiple paid VPNs since yesterday and none of them let me access Hulu anymore. And I used it for well above a year and it never gave me so much Trouble. I hope vpn providers will catch up and provide updates to fix that
VPNs aren’t illegal dude.
No stupid questions but there are stupid answers.
Edit: Whyd you change your comment? You originally said VPNS were illegal.
That’s silly. Of course there are stupid questions. Like this one.
You changed you original post. You originally said vpns were illegal which is pretty fucking stupid.
