Hello. I have two houses (not own but just saying). I want to use my house2 ip address while i am at house1. Like vpn but i want it to be my house ip. I believe it is possible but i dont know what to google to learn about it. Thanks. Also will it need some special devices or just software side?
Hi! IT Support technician here, I must warn you first off, without a basic understanding of IPv4, routing, firewalls and other networking areas, you can break stuff very very quickly on your machine as well as lose your ability to connect to the internet completely if you don’t know how to undo your changes.
With that warning out of the way, if you want to try it, simply search “how to set static IPv4 address in windows 10” and you should be given a guide on how to manually set your IP.
Another fair warning however, if you do this without having a connection to house 2 or its network through a VPN, Proxy, Reverse proxy or any other way of having access to your internal network it won’t work.
You can’t just change your IP to whatever you want and that’ll now be your public IP. You won’t even be able to set your public IP as your network more than likely uses NAT addressing.
If you want to learn more about IP addressing and internal networking I recommend researching NAT addressing as your first step.
