I’ve got a really old good deal with giganews. Using encryption between me and them.
I’m using SB and CP, all seems well, not missing anything i want, etc.
is GN considered safe, or should I be moving my account? I see very little discussion of them here, people mostly using other providers, I’m wondering if that’s just a cost thing, or if i should switch for safety.
People use it, it’s not particularly safe/unsafe vs any other provider (however you’re defining “safe”). Their service tends to be a bit more expensive vs other providers so maybe that’s why you usually see people discussing the others instead. Plus [Supernews] (http://www.supernews.com/) might be a better deal & gives you access to the same Giganews backbone.
Aside from usenet definitely stay away from the Giganews VPN services for non-usenet usage. Their VPN does store connection logs & respond to DMCA notices. Check out /r/vpn if you’re curious about that specifically.
Your money isn’t safe. It can be better spent with other providers. Supernews would be the direct replacement for GN. Heck you can get plans for 5$ a month nowadays too. Killer deals.
Currently with Supernews (and a few other providers). When I first got into Usenet I tried Giganews. Its very expensive and you get a almost identical product from Supernews (unless you live in SEA, which giganews is a better product there)… All of this said if you define safe as in them wanting to know who you are. Pretty bad as if I remember correctly Giganews needs a CC or paypal, both very identifiable. Many other Usenet providers allow Bitcoin which I would say is safer.
To be honest I have giganews I also use VPN but not to download or p2p, mostly for streaming because I know the logging policy is good provider Idk however save is because some far I do not have problem also I used frugal and tweaknews to cover all my necessity
Their retention is a deal breaker for many, myself included. There should be some good Highwinds resellers with 2000ish day retention going on sale on/around November 25 for about the same price as Frugal
Yes, i swapped out Frugal for news group direct when they had their 5.50$ deal. So pick up what is the best deal as you go. I would avoid yearly subs in case a better deal comes up half way in the year.
