Just wanted to give you a heads-up if you use Nord like me. I recently got prompted to turn on “Threat Protection” on my iPhone. I did that, and it blocks all ads. Took me a day to figure out that once I turned it off, I could play ads again.
Wanted you all to know in case it happens to you!

Wait… you mean an ad blocker blocking ads will cause you to not be able to view ads?

It depends on the VPN and how it’s used.
There are certain VPN software that are blocked / ban-able because their purpose is to subvert ads (i.e. get credit without watching the ad), spoofing location, etc.
Not all VPN are malicious or cheating. For example, the VPN I’m connected to at work on their wifi is almost transparent, only blocking known security threats but allowing all other access. Also worth noting that’s not on my device… it’s upstream in my connection to the internet.

is it somehow not showing the location of your VPN concentrator in your location services?
In my case? Nothing is changed/ blocked/ modified except access to known security threats. In fact, the VPN isn’t even on my device (neither my phone or my work laptop). It’s somewhere in the cloud.
It literally is just a filter: “is access being attempted to something on the blocked list of baddies? No? OK, carry on… yes? Well, your employee ID just got flagged…” lol.
VPN is just a broad term for the technology… it’s how it is used that determines whether AE blocks or or not.
Think of it like driving a Honda is the tech (VPN) and a secret compartment for hiding illegal drugs is how the tech is used (software app using VPN to spoof location). In some jurisdictions, having such a compartment will yield fines (or worse) even though there may not be any drugs inside it (just like using a particular VPN known for spoofing is banned, even if YOU are not actively trying to use it for spoofing your location in AE).
