Howdy, I’m running Proton VPN via Wiregaurd on my router. I have the
# Moderate NAT = off
# NAT-PMP (Port Forwarding) = on
in the config file so I should have port forwarding, but I don’t know for sure. PNP is on in QB.
I know that the Proton Mac/Windows clients give you a port number that you would then input into QB, but that’s not the case when running it on a router, right? Should I enable Moderate NAT?
Is there a way I can tell if port forwarding is working?
Thanks guys/gals!
There are two kinds of port forwarding. This is the other kind and only needs to be configured in qbit itself.
Might need to see if your router supports it via wireguard. It probably doesn’t. I think you can use a tool like natpmpc to port forward while you are not the physical machine itself, but this requires a script to constantly keep it going. It also only opens the port for a specified time and changes all the time. This is why there are dockers container dedicated for it and updating qbittorrent when the port changes.
I think it’s possible, but it’s going to be a bit complex and you probably won’t find an easy guide for you. You might have to cannibalize someone else’s script. If you are looking for easy, then you might have better luck using a pre-made docker container or other easy to use solution.
Port forwarding needs to be allowed and configured on the VPN provider side as they are the IP address that other torrent clients will connect to.
Yea I was thinking the same thing. Was running it as an LXC container in Proxmox but might run it on Windows instead so I can use the Proton app and the change port scripts people have written. Thanks
There are ready made docker containers that would work with proxmox if you are okay with it not being configured on your router. If you want easy, the proton app is definitely the way to go
