Hi,
I’m trying to use AdGuard and Proton VPN together on my (non-rooted) Android, but it seems I can’t use both simultaneously.
I really like AdGuard’s advanced customization features, and I think it would be great if I could use it with Proton VPN.
Are there any workarounds to make this work, or will Proton VPN have customization options in the future?
Hi! We have custom DNS for Android on our latest roadmap: https://protonvpn.com/blog/product-roadmap-winter-2024-2025
Stay tuned for updates in the upcoming months!
you can only have 1 active vpn on android at a time.
adguard uses that vpn slot when active to filter ads on apps and the internet, among other things.
so no, you cannot have both active at the same time.
with the upcoming custom dns in protonvpn, you will be able to set adguard dns as default, but you will still lose many of the features like being able to filter ads on apps when protonvpn is active.
Not quite the same features Adguard has but…Ad Guard’s Russian origins worry me.
For now, you might try using the brave browser and set up all the filter lists that it comes with.
It actually has a lot of nice built-in in privacy features like disabling non-proxied udp, which is handy, as well as script blocking.
If somebody else has a better way to help OP, I’d like to know, one of my old phones runs Proton with Brave for now.
Will custom DNS support DNS over HTTPS?
Will you also release custom dns for routers with support for ddns also with adblockers.Like controld does.
are there any plans to bring the new mobile design to desktop?
Just keep in mind it is easier to track you when you use a different DNS
In that sense, wouldn’t it defeat the purpose of adding the AdGuard DNS compared to the app?
I hope so, but I bet it’s just ipv6 support
Not in the first version, but eventually yes.
We got dared to go out without our panties!
totally.
you just need to decide if you really need to be connected to a vpn (protonvpn) all the time.
i have both of these apps installed. adguard is running on my device 99% of the time. but i dont live in a country where i need to connect via a vpn at all times. if you live in venezuela your situation might be different. its all about priorities.
if for whatever reason i need to connect to a public wifi or whatever else i may swtich to protonvpn, which i just have installed because it is included in their unlimited plan. i wouldnt pay for it on its own. it is not worth it for me.
