Hi all,
After a few gigabytes of downloading through Jdownloader2, my ProtonVPN connection fails, and cannot even access websites.
Information:
- Windows 10
- Paying for ProtonVPN
- Kill Switch, Secure core, Port Forwarding, Netshield off, but VPN accelerator/Moderate NAT on
- Other unconnected devices keep connection
- Ethernet connected to powerline adaptor
- Every 4 seconds, it uses around 148 Bytes of download and 92 Bytes of upload
- Happens in any region (so far, UK x4, Ireland, Netherlands x3, Belgium x2, Chad, USA, San Jose)
- Reinstalled an hour ago
- Not over device limit
Did you get an answer for this? I got the sam problem, when im downloading the internet flatlines for 30-60 seconds after a random limit. Ive reinstalled windows and tried everything. Never had a problem with Mullvad.
Is it happening with other VPNs? Maybe try with Windscribe, or Mullvad if you can. That way you can eliminate possible causes.
Try also without Secure Core, unless it is really required.
Hi, also a paid user I used to have the same issue when I tried Nord for a month in January but it would randomly disconnect several times an hour even when idling but with me Proton has been rock solid when downloading Windows 11 UUP component files through Wget. Running Windows 11 Pro here. I mainly use Wireguard or Openvpngui to connect to UK servers rather than the Proton Windows app. I have port forwarding, netshield and VPN accellerator enabled in my configs. I’ve not had much luck with powerline adapters in the past due to them spewing out crazy amounts of EMI/RFI they used to make my laptop mouse lock up and other odd behaviour. Currently connected to Proton through a WIFI6E MIFI device using a 5G connection with no issues.
Hi! If this behavior is consistent, please contact us through the ‘Report an issue’ option in the app menu, and send us the error logs in your report, so our technical support team can investigate this further and help you troubleshoot accordingly. Thank you in advance.
I think downloading on Jdownloader with too many concurrent connections was the problem. I was using 20x20 connections AND torrenting in the background, hitting over 500 connections concurrently. It was triggering the Anti-DDOS protection.
The solution is to chill out with downloads. However, your problem sounds kinda different. Might wanna bring it up with support, they were decent for me.
Oh no no, reread that line, I have secure core off, I should’ve split those bullet points
Okay, 20 minutes on, NordVPN is not giving me this issue.
Already contacted, hope to fix this soon
A bit disappointed. After diagnosing it to be your anti-ddos solution, the solution I got was “download less at once”
Can you try direct download and with Internet Download Manager? If you still get the error then contacting official support https://protonvpn.com/support-form would be the better solution.
Is this for real? After downloading several GBs of data using premium servers, Protons anti-ddos kicks in and cripples your connection?
Never had such an issue on paid servers, despite downloading hundreds of Gb‘s.
I’m using Jdownloader2 to attempt to download multiple files at once. That is the reason why. Other things, like gaming, streaming and Bittorrent do not suffer with these problems
I am using IDM with 8 channels at once, never had an issue for years.
