I did this and it worked just fine, got my V aura on my Steam copy.

Create and validate an account with your email.
Buy enough coins for an issue of the magazine I believe the cheapest was 160 yen and 480 yen for 640 (I wanna say the magazine was 617?), came out to just over $4.
Redeem your coins for the magazine and just below the issue there will be three codes for the Aura set, one for Steam, Playstation, and Xbox.
The Steam code is region-free, Playstation requires a Japanese PSN account to REDEEM (but if it’s anything like other Japanese games/DLC I’ve had, it should work if you are playing on a US account on the same console) and Xbox requires a VPN.
