Sharing connection/hotspot with vpn

A few times i’ve tried to share my iPhones hotspot with other computers/phones (non apple) with a vpn active on my phone that I am sharing the connection through.

I’ve done so on Wi-Fi and on LTE networks

Every time, when trying to access the Internet on the second device, the VPN seems to be inactive.

Why is this happening?

I’ve used a VPN for many years and know a bit so don’t be vague if you know.

WiFi hotsplot does not route traffic over your phone’s VPN connection.

Having the same situation. Is there a way to have AP using the existing VPN?

You are sharing your connection. VPN runs locally. Your friend has to buy his own or you share your creds if your sub works on multiple devices

Yeah, as other people said it runs locally

Got it, thank you, what about installing a vpn to a home router? Would this be feasible?

Your VPN tunnel is limited to your phone. You need an active VPN on your other devices as well.

When you use a iPhone hotspot, the VPN only protects traffic from the phone itself, not connected devices. For a shared VPN connection, you’d need a VPN-enabled router or another network-level solution. iPhones don’t natively extend VPN protection through hotspots.

I use a Beryl AX travel router. It has built-in VPN options.
I got it from GL.iNet
