I have a client who accesses their corporate network via IPsec on Global VPN Client. They use a wired connection and after connecting their speed drops from 500/40 to 50/40. Unfortunaly the RSC on wireless issue is so prevalent that I can’t find any information on the web about slowdowns on Wired connections.
The split tunnel connection is functioning as it should, but something is amiss.
Has anyone else seen this in the wild?
Many possibilities:
-Does your client have policy manager ? If so may be it is configured that wired users would receive 50
- how is your lan ports are configured, may be on ports data rate is misconfigured.
.- may be due to share Bandwidth? Does it occur always or only during certain times.
their speed drops from 500/40 to 50/40
Speed between what and what?
If split tunneling was working correctly; their speeds to sites like speedtest should be effected. Run a traceroute.
If the MTU on the VPN connection is set to max MTU (likely), when the VPN encapsulates the packets it makes them larger than the connection’s MTU. Now the router has to work harder while it fragments and re-assembles all the packets going over this interface. This slows down all of the traffic; even traffic going out to the regular Internet.
Finding and setting the correct MTU over VPN will boost the performance.
Have you tried GVC version 5? You have to open a ticket and ask for it because it’s not on their site. I ran into a similar issue earlier this year and this fixed it.
Google’s speed test or ookla or whatever.
