Using VPN at home, on trusted Wi-Fi network

I’ve had Nord for a while now and really like it, but I’m wondering if the functionality has changed. I have the app on my iPhone and iPad set to auto-connect on Wi-Fi, and have set my home SSID as trusted, as I normally don’t use VPN whilst at home.

Sometimes, though, I do want to turn the VPN on at home, for geolocation, or whatever, but when I try to turn it on, I get a message telling me that I’m on a trusted network, and asking if I want to remove this WiFi from trusted networks.

The answer is that I don’t really want to have to remove it - I just want to manually connect for a while. It’s a little niggle, but it’s super annoying and I don’t remember it acting like this before.

I believe it was always like that. On their site it mentions that the feature works as an exception list, so it’s basically designed to disable VPN on whitelisted networks. You have to remove the Wi-Fi from the trusted network list to connect manually
