Is the bridge open source?
GitHub - ProtonMail/proton-bridge: Proton Mail Bridge application
Can it be integrated into Thunderbird itself so that it would natively support Proton?
Not as it is, but when it’s running it’s just as seamless in Thunderbird as any other email provider.
What about other traditional clients such as Alpine/Claws/mutt?
It should work with any client that supports IMAP/SMTP
Right, good points too. I was not thinking enough when writing this. Anyway, I really like the ProtonMail service, but like I said previously under the CEO comment on a post about Skiff case, we cannot put all our trust in a company, even if right now they act good for their customers, so I will enforce me to not become a fanboumy. Its the worst thing to do.
In the grand scheme of things, spending $90 to test Proton out for a year is a reasonable price to pay. And it it works out for you, as I’m sure it will, so much the better.
I agree. I will commit and sing praises, but I won’t be a fanboy. The difference being, I will only be with Proton so long as they are the best. In my opinion, they are the best at this time and will be for the foreseeable future. And I don’t make decisions based on the unforeseeable future.
