PIA being purchased by cyberghost
Well that sucks. Now this product will go from a bunch of folks ‘doing the right thing’ to corp bullshit who lie to your face to sell your info behind your back.
Well shit. PIA was my first and only VPN and I’ve been a happy customer for years but this ain’t it. We had a good run but I guess I’ll have to find an alternative. Sucks even more because I think my yearly subscription renewed like last month or something.

We need a megathread for people to compare and contrast the next best VPN service. I’ve had a PIA sub for the past 4 years but looks like I need to jump ship.
Hah, just paid for another year 2 weeks ago.
My subscription is set to renew in…850 days.
What? Really? I don’t like this at all. It may be time to switch back to proton. Can we trust these people? Is cyber ghost and their parent company considered safe?
Yeah I’m not happy with this. I don’t like the move based on some quick research I’ve done into Kape Technologies, the parent of CyberGhost, and some less than stellar reviews of Kape’s existing VPN product.
Just to show you how easy it is for pia to sell your data
Think they’ll provide prorated refunds for us 3 year subscribers? Hope so.
Cyber ghost used to be zenmate! Bye bye PIA.
I been using pia for over a year now without any major issues.
However, this is not going to work for me. I will be dropping the service.
Even if this goes through (it will) nothing is going to change until sometime in 2020 (early). Nothing will change until then. Changing providers might be a good idea (I really don’t know) but there’s no reason to freak out right now.
Plenty of time for freaking out later!
Pretty disappointing.
Perfect timing for me…my subscription expires in 26 days, not renewing PIA.
This sucks really, really bad. Not just because PIA was such a reliable provider, but because they actually seemed to stand for something, to oppose surveillance and put themselves on the front lines. Now this bullshit.
I know what’s next, they’ll do the same shit that CyberGhost did, by claiming that with this new company and cash injection they’ll add new features, new benefits and be a million times better than its former self, but in reality it’s just a way to monopolize the market. I guess everyone has their price though. Too bad, this is the end of the road for me. Not that I expect they’ll start logging, but because the trust factor is seriously eroded.
I’m probably switching to Windscribe, because really good results so far, but I also like IVPN.
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 58%. (I’m a bot)
The deal is for $95.5 million according to a report by Vox Markets, consisting of $52.9 million cash, and the issue of over 42.7 million new Kape shares which will also pay off London Trust Media's existing $32.1 million debt.
Kape describes itself as a cybersecurity company focusing on giving consumers better digital protection, and the operation has already bought two other high-profile VPN providers previously - namely ZenMate and CyberGhost.
Clearly, Kape is serious about gobbling up turf in VPN territory, and the firm notes that PIA has over a million paying customers, and that almost half of these are based in the US. This will double Kape's existing user base to make for over two million paying subscribers across the globe.

Good morning all,
First of all, I want to apologize for our delayed response. As you can imagine, with any transition, it’s been a hectic couple of days in the office. I just wanted to take a quick moment to address a few of the concerns in this thread. As noted by other Redditors, this is very much a work in progress, but I wanted to briefly discuss how PIA will operate going forward.
The most important point I want to make is that we will continue to operate as a separate entity just as CyberGhost and Zenmate have since they joined Kape Technologies. The day to day operations aside, I want to make clear that this in no way changes who we are as a company. In fact, it strengthens us as we are in an even better spot to provide our wonderful subscribers with an improved product thanks to Kape’s backing. We will continue to remain fully committed to our founding values. Most important among these is the privacy and anonymity of our users will always remain our number one concern and we have ensured, with Kape, that our guiding principles will be upheld going forward:

Kape’s commitment to adopting and upholding these principles, which has been the centerpiece of our fight since our creation, is the reason we ultimately decided to move forward. I understand the concerns being expressed in this thread and others, but please know, as a company and team, we would never make a deal that jeopardizes our users or our reputation without guarantees.
I’ll do my best to address individual concerns in this thread. Please be as patient as possible and know that my knowledge of the deal, overall, is relatively limited. Again, it’s primarily because the deal isn’t finalized.
This is gonna kill the one of the best vpns
