PSA: Brave adds its own VPN service to your startup apps regardless of whether you've ever used the VPN at all

I’m still waiting for that fix lol. They lied.

Yeah sounds silly but only reason i can see this is coding error is the trigger mechanism, so when you switch on VPN in browser then it adds to windows startup

What happened last time?

The service isn’t even running. If this were “shenaningans” it would be.

Is firefox so bad that you would rather use anything else?

The fundamentally wrong thing is; they are not being transparent.

For example

Whatever they do they call it mistake or something. They created API’s to feed Ai char bots with Brave search. A journalist wrote an article about it and then Brave send an mail to him with an explanation. Then they published a post on their blog about this.

Somehow all their mistakes are super useful. Yes, they were non active services. They were not running but until which mistake?

Let’s downvote the person because they said the truth but not the truth I want to hear.

I installed a camera in your bedroom while you were not looking and didn’t tell you about it. But don’t worry, it’s not turned on when you looked at it now.

Yeah, and it’s unfortunate. Sketchy crypto-bro-iness aside, it’s probably the best browser out there.

I stopped using barve ever since they alter vanilla Amazon links to affiliate links.

Sometimes an error is just an error. Relax.

I voiced a concern on how their “Brave Ads” led to a link full of trackers and tracking parameters, and I got “This is not our business” sort of thing as response

I am not going to blame a company that wants to earn money but I really wish they were transparent

Most people don’t want to accept but Brave will be mini “Google”. What I mean is that they have already started their ad services. I hope they will end up being a better “Google” but personally, I can’t trust them with all those “mistakes”

No need to rush lol. Things just happens.

I never touched their VPN. The services are not listed on my start-up apps but they’re already installed. Actually very first day I disabled the VPN button.

it sure does, but the most surprising thing is that people keep suggesting that it is the best (or one of the best) private browsers.

I’m in the same boat. I use Firefox on Windows, Linux, and Android without an issue. Not sure why people are so obsessed with browser benchmarks and whatnot. They act like Firefox is some hulking, slow dinosaur when it doesn’t really feel any different to me when I use Chromium browsers.

I use Firefox on PC, but not android. It bugs me the android version still does not have an option to start with no previous tabs.

Not exactly, but its not for me.

I was using a firefox based browser until 50% dropped frames on youtube said hi so now I’m using chromium. it kinda really sucks but youtube works. still miss firefox
